"Is everyone in your family healthy?"

F1rst Wednesday, Holy crap!

I went to lunch at Souplantation with my co-worker on Thursday last week, and the weirdest thing happened to me. As I was getting out of the car in the parking lot, the lady in the car next to us was also getting out and she smiled at me and asked me how I was doing. I thought it was a little odd, but I didn't think much about it. Once we were inside, I happened to pass that same lady's table, and she looked up at me and smiled. (AWKWARD!) What did I do? I had to smile back.

After that, my co-worker and I enjoyed our lunch. Nothing much happened until the weird lady was about to leave, and she felt the need to come to our table to talk to me. She asked me if everyone in my family was healthy. Um, what? I had no idea what she was talking about. At first, I thought she was asking me if people in my family were obese since I had just served myself some chili and bread and that may appear as eating way too much. I was so confused by her question. I thought that somehow she was mistaking me for someone else. I told her that everyone was healthy, so she proceeded to give me a flyer for her church.....

She said that Jesus had told her that she should give me the flyer so that my family and I could join her "church" and get healed. She assured me that going to her congregation would save me. WTF? I took her F1rst Wednesday flyer and said thank you. She smiled and left.

My co-worker and I just looked at each other and we realized how creeped out we both were because of what had just happened. I'm not really sure what it was about that lady or her flyer, but I would NEVER go to a meeting like that. I would be worried for my life! It had cult written all over it, and I'm sure I'm wrong about that, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Plus, I don't need to be healed or saved or whatever, and I don't think that people need to go to church as long as they have faith.

Haha...at first when I was reading, I was like, "Hey, what's wrong with random strangers saying hi and asking how you are?" Just 'cause I live in a small town and I sort of expect it here. But then you got into the whole flyer thing...well, yeah...religious people can be pretty fanatic, especially about "recruitment". They think they're just doing good...but it bothers other people. In those situations you just gotta tell them the truth; "I'm sorry, I'm just not interested" usually works for me. I wouldn't have even taken the flyer. If they keep pushing, that's when you say, "Look, if you don't leave me alone, I'm going to have to talk to the manager". They're basically solicitors - you have to handle them the way you would some guy trying to sell you a vacuum cleaner you don't want or need.

It was so surreal when she came up to me at my table. I didn't know how to react to that. She wasn't pushy or anything, so I just took her flyer so she would leave and she did. I just felt like writing about it cause stuff like that has never happened to me. Craziness.
